Have you ever really paid attention to how much plastic is around us?

About 2.8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in Canadian landfills every year – equivalent to the weight of 24 CN towers. Not only are we harming our land, but also drowning our oceans in plastic as much of the landfill waste eventually ends up in our oceans.

At Enactus SLC, we see ourselves as part of a greater whole, committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. That’s when we teamed up with Canadian brand LUUMI for our Unplastic The World project to create something to slow down single use plastics by helping to get these products into the hands of consumers.

LUUMI gives you an alternative way to pack your lunch to reduce waste.

Made using 100% platinum silicone, LUUMI provides lunch bags, bowls, straws, and lids that are all reusable and easy to clean. It’s a convenient way to pack lunch without the waste so together we can #UnplastictheWorld.

We created a fundraising toolkit with LUUMI products that can be used by communities looking to raise funds and create a positive impact on their community.

We tested this fundraising method at St. Lawrence College and sparked a lot of student and faculties interest. We were able to connect with leads and convert them to first time sales as well as create referrals to friends and family.

This initial test laid the foundation for more sales next year while the product grows in the market, providing more information on how to better use this fundraising kit and increase market growth.
